Rotsvast was a teambuilding assignment from school. We had to work with a group of four people. I worked with three other classmates. Some from different courses. Namely we had graphic design and spatial design. I will be showing the parts that I worked on here and Explain what I did.
For the project we had to learn how to scrum. A organising way to plan our work. For the project I became a scrummaster. I took the lead in the group. We devided all the work and I planned everything for every one. I also got the role of final editor because my skills with the programs were higher. Though I stept in every where I could step in. Plus I tried to teach the others somethings and gave them tips and tricks for future assignments.
So the graphic part of the assignment was to design a Logo, writing paper, business card, Facebook banner, price tags, poster and other advertisments. The spatial part was to design a Store design, a shop window design and a blow-up of an article. All the workprocess you can find in a dutch documentation at the end of the blog. But it is nothing like a report.
The store Rotsvast was a non existing store that would sell high quality climbing articles. We started with gathering inspiration. Because it was a new store we wanted to go for a modern luxe but industrial vibe. That would say that the store had the newest but also the best quality products. Our main source of inspiration came from the newest climbing wall design called Nova. The one condition of the assignment was not to use any mountains in our design.
For the logo we went with a modern and geometric design. I actually don't remember why we came up with a sunset but here is the final design. The cirkel around it stand for sturdyness and quality. It also represents the rope used by climbing.
For the business cards we went with the pattern of the climbing wall as a background. This became the pattern for the brand.
The appearance had to modern and luxorious. It had to be clear that the newest products would be sold in this store. We chose the clours gray and blue for a modern look and it also gave a good contrast. We also chose to use these colours for the brand for easy recognition for the customers.
For the stationary we went from the business card design as a starting point. For the writing paper was it important to give it a clean look. With minimal distractions but also easy brand recognition. So the side bars became an brand symbol.
The ads had to show that the store was in- and outdoors. The price tags had to stand out in the store itself and would be used for big actions in the store. We kept it simple and as clean as possible.
For the facebook banner and profile picture we went with a comic side. We wanted that the banner and profile picture were looking like one picture. To make it funny we suspended the logo on the rope of the climber. For brand recognition we placed the bars again.
The project was very fun to do. I loved the planning and directing part. I was able to teach some off my trics to the others and I hope I inspired them enough.
